For over 5 years, Rotarians from the Rotary Club of Santa Maria, Noontime have shown up to support the Santa Barbara County Veterans Stand Down.
For 12 incredible years, the Veterans Stand Down has shone brightly as a lifeline for veterans in need. This powerful event mobilizes critical resources and support, standing firmly behind those who have bravely served our nation.
The vision of Veterans Stand Down was brought to life by Steve Lavagnino, 5th District Supervisor of Santa Barbara County, alongside our very own Rotarian, Yvonne Biely. Yvonne was the driving force behind organizing this event from its inception, 'The event has grown so much over the ears and it's such a great service to our veterans especially our homeless veterans.'. Once Yvonne transitioned to organizing the critical parking logistics, she knew her Rotary Club would be there to support the effort. For over 5 years, the dedicated Rotarians of the Santa Maria Noontime Rotary Club have been behind the scenes supporting the event.
Through the Veterans Stand Down, proudly hosted by Santa Barbara County, veterans are welcomed to a haven of comprehensive services – nourishing food, vital medical care, and supportive housing assistance. All are designed to uplift and empower our heroes as they navigate their journey back to civilian life. Amidst the challenges of homelessness and mental health struggles that many veterans face, the event offers a safe, compassionate space to access the help they need.
The partnership between the Rotarians and the Stand Down is a testament to an unwavering dedication to serve those who have served us all. As these volunteers tirelessly support their fellow veterans, they truly live the Rotary ideal of "Service Above Self". Through their actions, they ensure that our veterans receive the care, the respect, and the gratitude they have so courageously earned.
