Every action, no matter how small, can make a difference.
An elderly man strolling along the beach in the aftermath of a storm. In the distance, he spots a figure moving in a rhythmic dance. As he draws closer, he realizes it's a young woman, intently picking up starfish and gently throwing them back into the ocean. Curiosity gets the better of him, and he asks, "Young lady, why are you bothering to throw starfish into the sea?" She replies, "The sun is up, and the tide is going out. If I don't throw them in, they'll die." The old man, with a hint of skepticism, responds, "But don't you realize there are miles and miles of beach, and thousands of starfish? You can't possibly make a difference." The young woman listens patiently, then bends down, picks up another starfish, and tosses it into the ocean. "It made a difference to that one."
