President's Message

Fellow Rotarians,

Fellow Rotarians,

This past week we had a good conversation about the club’s goals for the Centennial celebration, and we will update those who weren’t able to join us with the outcome this Tuesday. Our guest speaker will be Sheryl Flores, who will be speaking about People’s Self Help Housing.

See you there!

Bob

Maricopa Update

Last week Homer Higgenbottom and Januvius Winterbottom met at the local coffee shop to discuss life's unanswerable questions.  Homer said, "You know, Januvius, that if a 19 year old person asked the bank for a $10,000 loan to start a business they wouldn't get the time of day.  But that same kid could sign up for $50,000 or $100,000 of student loans with no questions asked.  Why is that?"  Januvius responded, "I don't know and I don't know that I will ever know.  How about this one.  Last night my wife and I didn't feel like cooking, so we ordered a bucket of the Chicken Shack's wings from Door Dash.  When our food arrived it was two New York Strip Steak dinners from Ruth's Chris Steak and Chop House.  I wonder what the reaction was to receiving our bucket of chicken wings instead of two steak dinners."  Homer answered, "We will never know, but we can guess."

The Rotary Club of Santa Maria Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprised of local business, civic, and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships, and get things done in our community.

In 2020 we had a virtual fundraiser and raised over $53,000  which we gave to five local charities:

     Orcutt Trails

     CASA

     Casa of Hope

     ECHO/Band of Brothers

     YMCA

We support the Interact Club at St. Joseph's High School and we donate scholarships to Allan Hancock College.

We clean up Buena Vista Park and with three other Rotary clubs we coordinate the Rotary Christmas Parade.

Come and learn more about our club's humanitarian service and high ethical standards and help us build good will in our community.

THE FOUR-WAY TEST
of the things we think, say, or do:

1.  Is it the truth?
2.  Is it fair to all concerned?
3.  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

First The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

Second High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as on opportunity to serve society;

Third The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

Fourth The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

ROTARIAN CODE OF CONDUCT

The following code of conduct has been adopted for the use of Rotarians:

As a Rotarian, I will

1.  Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life
2.  Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupations with respect
3.  Use my professional skills through Rotary to:  mentor young people, help those with special needs, and improve people's quality of life in my community and in the world
4.  Avoid behavior that reflects adversely on Rotary or other Rotarians
5.  Help maintain a  harassment-free environment in Rotary meetings, events, and activities, report any suspected harassment, and help ensure non-retaliation to those individuals that report harassment.
