The meeting was called to order by President Michelle Shipman at 12:10. Ms. Shipman called John Henning to deliver a reflective prayer and Jim Talbott to lead the Club members in the Pledge of Allegiance.
There were no visiting Rotarians to introduce to the Club and President Michelle proudly introduced her husband Hank Shipman, joining her for her inaugural meeting.
The only Sunshine Report involved President Michelle welcoming Barb Blanchard back after an absence stemming from her bicycle injury.
Our President’s 2018-2019 Plan – BE THE INSPIRATION!
There was no Program Presentation planned allowing time for President Michelle the opportunity to review her plans for the next year, revolving around the theme, “BE THE INSPIRATION!”
She described a related topic offered by a motivational speaker that Michelle witnessed who suggested that “WORLD CLASS ORGANIZATIONS…..START WITH WORLD CLASS PEOPLE” and challenged the Club to take-up her goal to move THE Rotary Club of Santa Maria into a WORLD CLASS CLUB level……Nice job Michelle.
Michelle further informed the Club of some of her goals/plans for the new year,
a) Formal meetings at the Santa Maria Inn will be held on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays with the other two Tuesdays each month free to hold off-site meetings, special projects, or social activities.
b) Our President has set a goal to schedule other Club members to deliver parts of the meeting. As an example, Fred Pratt may be called on to lead the Announcements section of the meeting.
c) The Club members were again invited to assist Program Speaker chairs Bob Frias and Scott Dunn with suggestions for program presentations and/or speakers. Vibrant speaker presentations and speakers attract new guests…..guests stimulate membership!
d) Ron Nanning stepped to the lectern and restated his hope to revitalize our Century Club. The Century Club would allow a member to pre-pay his/her fines (NOT to include birthday or anniversary fines) for the entire year by paying $100 before the 2nd or 3rd meeting. This would give a nice “shot in the arm” to the Club’s budget at the start of the year.
e) President Michelle restated her goal to re-activate a Publicity Chairperson in the Club, noting the absence of a PR presence for the Club in the region.
f) A NEW Exemption Badge process was introduced. At each meeting, members would receive a single red ticket which would be drawn at the end of the meeting to determine the following meeting’s Exemption Badge Speaker, as well as the recipient of the $5 and $10 prize.
The inaugural Exemption Badge ticket was pulled in favor of Diana Harb with a $5 spiff going to Lynda Gantt and the $10 going to Heather Weare!!! I guess today's ticket draw was like the song, “Luck Be a Lady Tonight!”
