President's Message

Fellow Rotarians,

Welcome to June gloom in May, although the sun will be out for our meeting on Tuesday.

We had 13 members at our meeting on the 11th, which is a pathetic show of support for our club. We work hard to get the best speakers we can and it is embarrassing when the turnout is so low. 50% attendance is totally not acceptable. Guess you can tell I am not happy! There are a few members who have bona fide excuses and let me know they will be unable to attend.

Our club has a planned park cleanup at Buena Vista Park on June 1st.

Our wine raffle will be May 25th. So far 11 members have brought in their two bottles of wine. This Tuesday will be the last meeting to bring in wine, otherwise members will be charged $40.

Sure hoping for good attendance on the 18th.

Fred Donati

Maricopa Update

A couple of months ago Homer Higgenbottom's brother Hiram was shoeing a horse on the ranch.  The horse kicked him in the head and knocked him unconscious.  The ambulance took him to the "U.C. Maricopa Medical Center, A Regional Healthcare Facility"  where he spent the night.  When he woke up he was fine except for one thing.  Instead of speaking in his native Maricopa dialect, he spoke in "Rotarian."  His conversations were sprinkled with phrases like "Four Way Test," "Paul Harris Fellow," "District Designated Funds," "Avenues of Service," "Club Assembly," and "Polio Plus."  The head of the Neurology Department at "U.C. Maricopa Medical Center, A Regional Healthcare Facility" researched this phenomenon and could not find any other cases of this condition.  He did find several studies where persons who had experienced brain trauma would start speaking with a different accent.  Some persons have started speaking with a British accent, or an Australian accent, or even a French accent, but there have been no documented cases of anyone speaking "Rotarian."  He did tell Homer that in most cases the accents have gone away in a few weeks or months.  Upon hearing that, Homer took Hiram to a Rotary meeting and in a couple weeks he was inducted.  Before his "Rotarian" speaking went away they had elected him President Elect for next year.

Secret Agent

Part time Undercover C.I.A. agent and Rotary Treasurer Heather Weare took this photo in Arroyo Grande of former Rotarian and current British secret agent, Hans Kardel, who is also know as Agent 006 & 7/8 (He doesn't have a full license to kill, only a provisional one).  Under Weare's direction Kardel is selling information to the two gentlemen on the right, who are known Russian agents who are extremely loyal to Vladimir Putin.  They think they are buying a flash drive with names and addresses of C.I.A. agents in Russia and Eastern Europe, but in actuality they are getting names and addresses of current and former Rotarians. Most assuredly the two Russian agents will not be happy with Kardel when they discover what they have bought, and they will seek revenge on him.  Kardel will lure them to Weare's home where a host of C.I.A. agents will be waiting for them.  Now this is where the sheer genius of the plan comes into play.  Once the Russian agents are in Weare's house, the C.I.A. agents will lock them in the house with all of Weare's children.  It may not take long for the Russian agents to surrender and spill their guts to the C.I.A.
