President's Message

My Fellow Rotarians:

As we all know, Royce Lewellen passed away last Wednesday. He was a member of this club for about 20 years and was still an honorary member. Beyond Rotary, he was a huge contributor to many local non profits, especially PCPA and Allan Hancock College. He was a friend to all of us, and we as Rotarians of this club, share with his family the loss of this good and gentle man.

Dave Peck

Dave Peck graduated from Cal Poly, Pomona a long time ago, and has since worked as a farm chemical adviser and as a farmer. Mostly growing strawberries, raspberries and blackberries, he was awarded “Strawberry Farmer of the Year” for Santa Maria Valley in 1998 and “Santa Barbara County Farmer of the Year” in 2011.

As co-author of several strawberry field research papers dealing with non-chemical growing techniques, Dave has contributed to the advancement of modern farming technology.

Since 2008, Dave and his wife became certified firearms instructors and have volunteered as Range Safety Officers and members of the Board of Directors at Santa Maria Gun Club. Currently, Dave serves as the Secretary for the Gun Club (Diana is the current Club President).

Sips and Sombreros Fundraiser

Last week's sponsorship grand total was $10,000. Over stated due to a duplicate entry, thank you to those who squeezed out a few more sponsorships to announce this week!! We want all the logos to be included in our publicity for social media to give our sponsors mileage for their dollars! Maricopa Update

The Mayor of Maricopa was a little worried when he heard his wife talking to herself. When he asked her about it she replied, "I was having a parent-teacher conference."

The gourmet cheese store in Maricopa was hit with panic buying last week. It looked like a tornado went through the place. All that was left was de brie.
