President's Message

As a past president of THE Rotary Club of Santa Maria, I am pleased to lead our meeting this next Tuesday during Virginia’s last month as the leader of our Club. Good job Virginia and enjoy your upcoming Step Down ceremony. Beginning July 1, we welcome Bob Curry as our leader for the next year. He has some good ideas for his year and with several new members our future is bright.

Please join the meeting on Tuesday when our guest speaker will be Ken Dahmen who is the Program Director of the Santa Maria Bici Centro which is bicycle repair and sales group located in northern Santa Maria. Their mission is to promote bicycling, walking, and public transit for a healthy and sustainable community.

See you then,

Maricopa Update

Investigative reporter and part time dog walker Scoop De Poop reported that the U.C. Maricopa Medical Center and the CDC have issued new warnings to middle and high school students on the effects of "Lame Disease."  They have asked that all middle and high school students wear masks and maintain social distancing from their parents this summer to avoid "Lame Disease."  For boys researchers say that this disease starts innocently enough with the rolling of eyes when the student hears a "Dad" joke.  As this insidious disease progresses the victims are begging their fathers for "Dad" jokes.  Other symptoms include wandering aimlessly around the garage rearranging tools.  In it's later stages the victims begin hiking their trousers up to just below the rib cage. In girls this disease starts with the rolling of the eyes and saying, "You're so lame."  It quickly progresses with the victim saying, "You're ruining my life.  I hate you."  Soon the teenager says, "Mom, some times you're OK."  At the final stages the victim has been known to say, "Mom, I want to be like you."  The CDC has not issued mandatory mask guidance while in the home with parents, but if the students do not comply mandates will be issued.  In a related story Pfizer has asked for emergency approval of a "Lame Disease" vaccine.  This vaccine will be given to all middle and high school students annually without notification of their parents.

The Rotary Club of Santa Maria Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprised of local business, civic, and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships, and get things done in our community.

In 2020 we had a virtual fundraiser and raised over $53,000  which we gave to five local charities:

     Orcutt Trails

     CASA

     Casa of Hope

     ECHO/Band of Brothers

     YMCA

We support the Interact Club at St. Joseph's High School and we donate scholarships to Allan Hancock College.

We clean up Buena Vista Park and with three other Rotary clubs we coordinate the Rotary Christmas Parade.

Come and learn more about our club's humanitarian service and high ethical standards and help us build good will in our community.

THE FOUR-WAY TEST
of the things we think, say, or do:

1.  Is it the truth?
2.  Is it fair to all concerned?
3.  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

First The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

Second High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as on opportunity to serve society;

Third The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

Fourth The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

ROTARIAN CODE OF CONDUCT

The following code of conduct has been adopted for the use of Rotarians:

As a Rotarian, I will

1.  Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life
2.  Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupations with respect
3.  Use my professional skills through Rotary to:  mentor young people, help those with special needs, and improve people's quality of life in my community and in the world
4.  Avoid behavior that reflects adversely on Rotary or other Rotarians
