Say "Yes" to Noontime Rotary
President's Message

Fellow Rotarians,

This week’s meeting is our bimonthly trash cleanup at Buena Vista Park, so please plan to meet there at noon. Also, please note that this week begins Rotary’s Week of Service, and this Saturday at 9:00 a.m. (April 22) our club is joining the breakfast and evening clubs for service projects at the Rotary Centennial Park. There, our club’s project is to add and level new bark in the playground. You may want to bring gloves and a shovel, and don’t forget to bring sunscreen, water, and a hat as well. We will likely finish before noon, and there is opportunity to bring a lunch and visit with our fellow Rotarians afterwards. I look forward to seeing you there!

Maricopa Update

Last week Homer Higgenbottom and Januvius Winterbottom met at the local coffee shop to discuss changes.  Januvius started, "I'm not understanding people these days.  Men want to become women.  Women want to become men.  It seems that everyone wants to be something else."  Homer responded, "I think a lot of people are unhappy about who they are, so they think they will be happy if they become something different." Januvius said, "I'm not really unhappy with who I am, but I think I would be a lot happier if I were Ryan Reynolds.  I think I could be really happy if I had his fame, his money, and his looks."  Homer answered, "There are a couple of things wrong with that.  Fame and good looks are so fleeting, and money won't make you happy.  Besides that is such a violation of the Four Way Test."  Januvius said, "You're right."  He paused for a few seconds then asked, "How about if I were George Clooney?"  Homer quickly responded, "I already claimed him!"

What is Rotary?
"It is our offer of hands-on service, personal growth, leadership development, and lifelong friendships that creates purpose and passion."

The Rotary Club of Santa Maria Elevator Speech

We are a leadership organization comprised of local business, civic, and professional leaders.

We are a nonpolitical nonsectarian service club.

We meet regularly to get to know each other, form friendships, and get things done in our community.

In 2020 we had a virtual fundraiser and raised over $53,000  which we gave to five local charities:

     Orcutt Trails

     CASA

     Casa of Hope

     ECHO/Band of Brothers

     YMCA

We support the Interact Club at St. Joseph's High School and we donate scholarships to Allan Hancock College.

We clean up Buena Vista Park and with three other Rotary clubs we coordinate the Rotary Christmas Parade.

Come and learn more about our club's humanitarian service and high ethical standards and help us build good will in our community.

THE FOUR-WAY TEST
of the things we think, say, or do:

1.  Is it the truth?
2.  Is it fair to all concerned?
3.  Will it build goodwill and better friendships?
4.  Will it be beneficial to all concerned?

THE OBJECT OF ROTARY

The Object of Rotary is to encourage and foster the ideal of service as a basis of worthy enterprise and, in particular, to encourage and foster:

First The development of acquaintance as an opportunity for service;

Second High ethical standards in business and professions, the recognition of the worthiness of all useful occupations, and the dignifying of each Rotarian's occupation as on opportunity to serve society;

Third The application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian's personal, business, and community life;

Fourth The advancement of international understanding, goodwill, and peace through a world fellowship of business and professional persons united in the ideal of service.

ROTARIAN CODE OF CONDUCT

The following code of conduct has been adopted for the use of Rotarians:

As a Rotarian, I will

1.  Act with integrity and high ethical standards in my personal and professional life
2.  Deal fairly with others and treat them and their occupations with respect
3.  Use my professional skills through Rotary to:  mentor young people, help those with special needs, and improve people's quality of life in my community and in the world
4.  Avoid behavior that reflects adversely on Rotary or other Rotarians
5.  Help maintain a  harassment-free environment in Rotary meetings, events, and activities, report any suspected harassment, and help ensure non-retaliation to those individuals that report harassment.
