THE ROTATOR

BE THE INSPIRATION

Dear Fellow Rotarians,

Our club has lost several longtime members this past year. As Bob Dylan sings, “The times they are a changin’.” Rotary is changing too. This week, I’d like to pay a special tribute to a few of our longtime members who have served in our club for over 10 years and have had to leave for one reason or another.

     Karen Fothergill, 11 years

     Rick Haydon, 14 years

     Hans Kardell, 14 years

     Frank Culley, 11 years

If you have a chance, shoot him (or her) an email or call to let our partner in crime know that we’re thinking about them and we miss seeing them around. While we may no longer have our Rotary club in common, we still have a special Rotary bond that can last a lifetime if we let it.

See you at the next meeting … and in the meantime, Dare to be EXTRAordinary!

YIRS,  Michelle

NICK FRANKLE
Nick shared a heart warming description of "OPERATION FOOTPRINT" a Rotary International supported collaboration that has provided restorative surgeries, medical training, physical therapy to benefit children of Tegucigalpa, Honduras who have been born afflicted with clubfoot.

BY THE NUMBERS
     *  Started in 2002, the program has treated over 1,000 children.
     *  The 2019 effort has a goal of serving 35-40 children in 4-days.
     *  A WORLD WIDE birth defect, 1 out of 1,000 children are born with clubfoot.
     *  WHEN medical casting is available AT BIRTH, surgeries are typically avoided.
Nick concluded his presentation with a wonderful short story....

One day a man was walking along the beach when he noticed a boy picking
something up and gently throwing it into the ocean. Approaching the boy, he      asked, “What are you doing?” The youth replied, “Throwing starfish back into
the ocean. The surf is up and the tide is going out. If I don’t throw them back,         they’ll die.” “Son,” the man said, “don’t you realize there are miles and miles           of beach and hundreds of starfish? You can’t make a difference!”
After listening politely, the boy bent down, picked up another starfish, and         threw it back into the surf. Then, smiling at the man, he said…
" I made a difference for that one.”
THANK YOU NICK, for your shining example of "Service Above Self"!!!!!!!
