President's Message

Fellow Rotarians,

Today is Mother's Day and I salute all Moms, especially those members of our club. Today is your day, so enjoy!

Judge Rogelio Flores will be our speaker this week at Rotary Centennial Park. The weather has turned nice so please plan to attend.

We are in the middle of our wine raffle event. Last week nine members brought their two bottles of wine for our raffle. I really need the rest of the club to bring their wine this Tuesday. Remember, you will be charged $40 if you do not bring your bottles. At the same time, we will also be selling "Wild Card" raffle tickets. On May 25th, there will be a special drawing of only these tickets. The winning ticket will receive half of the proceeds with the club receiving the other half.

Again, I ask members to bring guests and potential members to our meetings. We need to have our club grow in 2021.

See all of you on Tuesday.

Fred Donati

Last Week's Meeting

All of the club's essay award winners attended to receive their district award. Yvonne did a super job introducing the three students and reading parts of their writings. Together, the three students received $900!

Judy Saki from the local Japanese community was our speaker. Judy told the club about some of the early Japanese pioneers in the Santa Maria Valley. As the City of Santa Maria develops Enos Park and renovates the old Enos house, the Japanese Community will be an integral part of building a large community center. Within the area our club will be planting Hiroshima trees grown from seeds coming from Hiroshima. Judy's talk was very timely as this project moves forward.

Wine Raffle

Last week a few members brought in their wine for the wine raffle. This week those who didn't bring in their wine need to bring in two bottles of wine.  Please bring in two bottles of quality wine (no Boone's Farm or box wine) this week and give them to Virginia, who is coordinating the wine raffle.  We also need to sell our raffle tickets (You are going to be billed for them anyway, so you might as well sell them to try to recoup some money).  The actual raffle will take place at the end of the month and there will be many winners.  The proceeds from the raffle will go towards sending the Rotator editor on a much needed one week vacation in Maricopa.  Believe me, one week in Maricopa will seem like a lifetime.

Maricopa Update

The Mayor of Maricopa took a stroll in one of the local parks.  He noticed two city employees working very hard.  One would dig a hole in the ground, then his partner would follow him and fill in the hole.  He watched them do this several times, then he went over to them and said, " I appreciate how hard you guys are working, but I don't understand what is going on."  The one employee replied, "I guess it must look kind of funny, but the third member of our crew, they guy who plants the trees, called in sick today."
